Cheryl’s Caring Journey: Finding Strength and Joy Through Support
|
For seven years, Cheryl has been the primary carer for her husband, who lives with young onset dementia and frontal lobe dementia. Adjusting to this role was no easy feat, especially with no nursing background. Cheryl faced uncertainty, guilt, and self-doubt as she navigated the complexities of her husband’s care.
However, over time, she built a support network that helped her face the challenges of caring with confidence and resilience. Joining a Carers WA In-Person Peer Support (IPPS) group was a turning point. Cheryl found a community of people who understood her journey, offering connection, understanding, and lasting friendships.
This support helped Cheryl overcome feelings of isolation, find strength within herself, and realise she wasn’t alone. Her story is a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking support and discovering the strength we all hold within.
